Photo of the Month - Jan 2019

Starting in 2019 the club has instigated a "Photo of the Month" competition, which current members of the club are able to submit there images for.

The inaugural competition was judged by Joe Sheridan F.D.A. BA(Hons), A.R.P.S.

Joe had this to say when judging

"Well done to everyone for entering the competition, it was a difficult decision as the images were a very high quality but remember these are only my choices and it is not a reflection on any of the other excellent shots."

1st Place - "The Gambler"

The image was selected not just for the quality of the shot but the atmosphere created in the post processing, the author has captured a moment in time which tells a story. The story could be a gambler on a roll or he is taking his last chance with an all or nothing gamble. Although this looks a staged shot the overall image has been well captured and well processed.

2nd Place - "Kestrel-1-2"

A beautiful shot which is often very difficult to achieve due to bright sky and normally a fast moving object but it has been well captured with a good composition in the top right hand corner with good space in front of and below the bird giving the impression that the bird is about to dive for it’s prey.

3rd Place - "Cullercoats Post Eclipse Dawn"

A lovely shot of a beautiful sunrise, very well composed with a good foreground to allow a sense of depth in the image, you are led into the image from the bottom left and taking a line of the beach to the cliffs and back around to the starting point. The image is very clear and due to a longer exposure keeps the sea and sand beautifully smooth.

We thank Joe for taking the time to judge this month. If you'd like to see Joe's own work then check out his website here.
